More News For You To Read

Just a very short introduction before I make some comments on here. I thought you should know this:

"Red-hot planet: All-time heat records have been set all over the world during the past week

From the normally mild summer climes of Ireland, Scotland and Canada to the scorching Middle East, numerous locations in the Northern Hemisphere have witnessed their hottest weather ever recorded over the past week.

Large areas of heat pressure or heat domes scattered around the hemisphere led to the sweltering temperatures.” (Jason Samenow, Washington Post, July 4, 2018

There, a very short story about the weather. Now for something different.

In reading the newspaper online these days, I think that we may have some interesting stories taking place. I just do not mean in this area only but all across North America.

Sure, we're having our local elections taking place in the fall. That should be very interesting after the recent provincial election and about a year ahead of the federal election. It just seems to be getting so late to me for people to announce that they are going to run for office in our area. They have to sign up quickly now or they will be in big trouble running.

I just don't understand this. I must admit that, if I was going to run for office, I would sign up as early as I could and would have been circulating throughout my riding to get voters to meet up with me by now. I would want to visit their homes personally and through deliveries as many times as I could to get their support. Why hasn't this happened in the City of Windsor as an example? Especially, with respect to some people that I thought would be running who have not yet filed an application.

We will be having a federal election Canada in 2019. I am sure that we will see a lot of stories coming out about the people who will be running for office. Of course, I expect that many of them will be written about the Liberal leader, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. He seems to have a good number stories written about him these days. Unfortunately for him, and the Liberals, a lot of those stories are strongly negative.

Regretfully, I can tell you little about the leaders of the other parties. I hardly have seen anything at all about them these days. If I was someone working for an Opposition party, what I would be doing now was getting as much good publicity as I could in the media about my leader.

What will happen federally in the US? Their election is in the fall this year. Sure he is not running now because his term is for four years but it will be interesting to see what happens in the US in relation to the President. The most interest will be how many Republicans are elected in this election. The Republicans had 54 Senate seats which gave them the majority and 247 House seats which also gave them a very large majority there.

Will the Democrats be able to gain control of either the House or Senate or both of them so that President Trump will be a difficult position to get what he wants passed. Alternatively, has he done so well that he will keep the majority in both Levels of Government? One can expect a lot more news media stories over the next few months which one can read and try and figure out what can happen.

Do you see what I mean? There will be a lot of political stories that I will be writing primarily because I am so interested in the subject. However, there are a lot of other matters about which I will be writing as well.

Of course, there is one story that I am going to write about today but it is probably not what you think I would be saying.

Just to let you know directly, dear reader, I have no idea about what is really going on these days with respect to the border crossing in the Windsor/Detroit area. I am just speculating now on what could be happening. I have to admit that I doubt that it is today but who knows what might happen tomorrow.

I am not going to discuss very much about the event with respect to the construction of a new Governments Bridge in this area that just took place. I just do not think very much about it.

I have no idea what the cost of this Governments Bridge project will be since it started quite low, increased to just over $2 billion and has gone up as high as $8 billion. In reading the stories just published, the numbers between $3 and $4 billion seem to be the ones that are thrown around the most these days. No matter what the numbers are it seems that the costs for the Ambassador Bridge project are substantially lower since the total projected cost seems to be around $1 billion for what they want to do. Frankly, how can the Governments go forward with their project that may go anywhere from three times to eight times higher in construction cost. Does it make sense at all to do so!

If however you believe that the costs are known, then think again:

"Further details about the design, and cost, of the bridge are expected later this year.” (WXYZ, July 5, 2018)

What really troubles me is what taxpayers would have to pay if this bridge goes forward. It would seem that there is no such price these days. I just wonder what the new builder of the project would say about the "guaranteed cost" that it would put forward.

Of course, I have not seen anything yet about what the Ambassador Bridge Company will do to try to stop this bridge being built. What interests me though is whether they will start a lawsuit or not to prevent this from happening. If one is started, where will it be done? Will the action be commenced in Canada, the United States, in both countries or somewhere else internationally wherever that might be?

I expect that whatever court action is taken will go on for at least a decade! How many other lawsuits are outstanding now that have to be resolved. Just add another massive one.

Or maybe, this is all just something that is being done to obscure something else that could be taking place now. Could the various Governments and the Ambassador Bridge Company be working on some kind of a deal to handle the border crossing matter to arrive at a new arrangement? I have no idea whatsoever about whether this is true or not.

Just think about it though considering this event that just took place recently that very few seemed to know about at all in advance. After a very long time as the owner, the Moroun Family just sold some of their property in Detroit to the Ford Motor Company for an unknown price but one which I assume made them a nice profit. Are they trying to do something similar with respect to the Ambassador Bridge?

What if the Governments are prepared to pay them a substantial amount to take over their ownership of the Ambassador Bridge which would give them justification for building a second bridge right beside it? As I said above, the cost for building the Governments bridge has risen substantially. Could that be part of what is going on? After all, the price being suggested to build the bridge that the Governments are talking about now is in the many billions of dollars, a lot more than before.

What if the cost to sell from the Ambassador Bridge Company to the Governments is in the range being thrown about in the media these days? What if the deal goes through at a very high price, but below the numbers being exaggerated today for the new Governments bridge cost? No one would be negative at that time because I would suggest to you, dear reader, that the price will be below any of the exaggerated amounts that are being thrown around today.

All I can say about what I have just discussed is: Who knows! We will just have to wait and see what happens.
