Wow, Saturday was turning out magnificently. I've seen weather forecasts that suggested that it would be heavy rain for most of this day. Fortunately, I hardly saw any rain other than a few drops late in the morning. Oh sure, it was a bit windy but that changed along with the weather to a very nice spring day.
Today, which is Mother's
Day, may turn out nice as well so that I was thinking where should I take my
wife, Marsha, so that we could have a very fun day this year. As you know, I was
not feeling well last year so I wanted to make it up to Marsha and make sure
that she had a good time.
I was doing a lot of
thinking about what we should do but my brain kept being bothered by a clicking
sound that I heard as my wife was driving the car over several days. I really
wasn't worried very much because I heard these sounds before as some stones were
locked into the tires until they eventually were blown away. Accordingly, I
wanted to "unplug" that tire by removing the stone.
Therefore, when we came
back home Saturday morning after doing some grocery shopping, I started
examining the tire so that I could remove the stone finally. My wife moved the
car several times and I did not see anything stuck in the tire. This was not
until the last possible movement when the tire would have been completely
revolved.
Ah there it was! There was
something that was plugged into the tire exactly as I expected. However, it was
not a stone or a rock. Rather, it was a NAIL!
That really shocked me. In
all of the years, and I have driven a vehicle for over 50 years just so you
know, that has never happened to me before. I have to admit I wasn't sure what I
should do or how serious the matter was. What concerned me was that the nail,
since it could not be easily removed when I tried to pull it out, must be stuck
deeply into the tire and could cause the tire to collapse as the air eventually
left it.
I am not familiar on how to
fix a tire and was really not sure at all how serious the problem was. All I
know is that the tire had to be fixed and I was quite concerned about driving on
it since I had no idea if it would completely fall apart. It was a Saturday so
that meant we would not be driving the car. So much for going anywhere great on
Mother's Day! [Sigh]
Accordingly, we called the
Ford repair service and arranged to have one of their service people come out
and tow the vehicle into the Ford dealership to have repairs done. We had a
terrific towing guy come out within an hour after I called Ford. He suggested
either that I should drive the vehicle where I wanted to go to have tire
replaced or he would carry it on his truck and taken to my dealership. I chose
the latter approach because I figure that my Ford Dealer would do the best
job.
Anyway, that's where my day
ended. My options for what we can do on Sunday for Mother's Day have been
reduced so that all it means is that we will have to do something a lot closer
to our home than we expected and celebrate at a later time.
I'm certain that everything
will be fine after we hear back from our Dealer on Monday. We are learning
something new again and will be able to share our new-found knowledge with
others who may run into a similar problem and feel overwhelmed by the
situation.
Here are some photographs
of the wonderful fellow from Abrams Towing who came to our Townhouse Condominium
to provide us with alternatives and ultimately to move our vehicle for its
repairs. Thank you Sir for helping us out!
